Cooking Matters teaches MKC members to cook delicious, healthy meals
February 4, 2016
The MKC is excited to partner again with Cooking Matters, a U.S. Dept. of Agriculture-recognized program, and Chef April Thompson to make nutrition educational, fun, and filling.
At the start of each class, young chefs engage in an introductory lesson about taking control of their health by making wise food choices. Then, it’s into the kitchen where the food fun really begins. One of the things they practice is knife skills (under the watchful eye of Chef April and her assistants). During a recent class, students washed, cut, and combined fruit into a colorful salad that was a treat to both the eye and the taste buds. Next came the preparation of a deliciously nourishing main course of turkey tacos, complete with shredded carrot and zucchini. Finally, culinary artists-in-training sat and enjoyed the fruits (and tacos) of their labor, in community.
