The Great Pumpkin takes up residence at the MKC
June 15, 2016
In spite of the day’s heat and humidity, June 11th was a joyful day of digging and designing, creating and crafting, building and beautifying. Leeco Steel Co. in Lisle, IL recently committed to helping the MKC with several projects, and we started with the beautification of the grounds the Center shares with Catalyst Maria School. Led by Kevin Comiskey, Leeco volunteers, several with ties to Maria HS and some of whom brought family members to help, worked alongside Master Gardener Val Kehoe, Horticulture Coordinator with the University of Illinois Extension and MKC staff and members. The hot weather didn’t deter anyone from their work as we prepped and planted a pumpkin patch, landscaped with decorative brickwork, planted flowers, and decorated and hung bird houses (thank you Bob Fecht!). We are also deeply grateful to our other garden partner, Rev. Linda Wygant and Grace Seeds Ministry, for donating materials and supplies to the garden in general and this project in particular. We are so blessed!
